Default Poss re gearing

Am thinking about getting some more axels and rebuilding them and some more major work over the next year. I have found a good deal on a set of 4.56 for my d35 . I am new to this but they say they are reverse cut. Are all of them reverse cut?? I just don't want to buy something that won't work

if you have a dana 35 in the rear don't waste another dime on it. I'm not sure if they ever made a high pinion reverse cut dana 35 but if you are referring to reverse cut dana 30 gears for your front axle then that is possible

I'm assuming you're referring to a ring and pinion for your front axle since you already have an 8.25 rear.
If you're going to run 33's some day then yes, 4.56's are good.
I suggest buying brand new. And doing A LOT more research first.

Agreed. If your gonna invest the time and energy to build up some axles, don't do a 35. Maybe a c8.25 or a ford 9" (with some fab..)

Where did he say high pinion?

I agree, tho, he prolly meant D30.

I roll 33s on 4.10s with my manual trans. I like it, really.

I was way overgeared on 31s.

Most people go with an 8.8 out of a Ford Explorer before a 9" rear.

It goes D35 < 8.25 < xj 44 < 8.8 < 9" and the 88 and 9 are not drop in
But at 32's or 33's I'd just stick with a factory 8.25

Ditch the Dana 35! Its Ok to have 35 but its a waste to put money in it. And there's a huge amount of work and money in a regear it's way more than just new ring and pinion

Has anyone ever even heard of a high pinion d35 though? I haven't... Think the op got his axles confused. But regardless if u have a d35 rear don't even waste your time gearing it, swap an 8.25 in and gear that

Didn't even think about that.... But I'm pretty sure they never put them in a Cherokee

Well its easier to find, roughly the correct width already, and all you really have to do is weld on new spring perches to put it in an XJ. They also have the correct lug pattern assuming its off a crown vic, mustang, or exploder. Its technically a bit stronger than a D44 aswell. Only drawback is that it is a C-clip axle.
