Popping noise from rear

I'm getting a popping noise from the rear whenever I turn. It comes from either one side or the other depending when I turn. I did BPE's and still get the noise. It is decently loud. Running 5.5" of lift with a ford 8.8 out back. Any thoughts?

I'm leaning to maybe flex issues, but not sure.

Check and make sure everything is tight

Just double checked, everything is tight.

I can stand on the rear and bounce the truck up and down, side to side, whatever and it will not make the noise. But as soon as I'm driving and turn a corner hard it makes the noise.

Does the axle have an auto locker?

jeepincoop 09-03-2012 02:25 PM

Does it sound like it's coming from right under the passenger rear door?thats where i have mine coming from and pretty sure it the leaf spring bushing.Mine didnt start till I lincoln locked it and turn corners.

CrawlinPepper 09-03-2012 06:39 PM

It actually comes from both sides. It does have an auto locker. It might be bushings but I'm not sure. Going to have someone else drive while I sit in back and try to listen for it. Will post update here soon.

does it sound like a suspension pop or is it a constant pop through the corner?

CrawlinPepper 09-03-2012 07:41 PM

It honestly sounds like sheet metal pop, as if it was flexed inward then popped back out.

I had this EXACT problem and i couldnt figure it out for the life of me, until i laid under the truck and had a buddy drive back and forth over me... long story short it was my leaf springs themselves popping at the end of the lowest leaf. (Where the little threaded pin is coming through) I used a screwdriver to separate it a little bit and wedged some thin plastic inserts in between the tip of the lowest leaf on both sides, now the noise is gone. Ill be getting new leaf springs in the near future but it will do for now!

CrawlinPepper 09-03-2012 08:33 PM

What kind of leaf spring are you running?

jomps 09-03-2012 08:35 PM

maybe the lower shock bolt with the angle being more extreme than stock

stang65 09-03-2012 08:36 PM

weird question are you running pin eliminators yet on the rear shocks?

CrawlinPepper 09-03-2012 09:12 PM

Lower seems tight.

I'm running BPE's in the rear.
