Default Popping/CLicking/Snapping sound when stopped and turning, video inside

So something that started happening tonight, or maybe yesterday I just didnt pay close enough attention. while turning almost all the way left, you get this clicking/popping sound, sometimes it loud, sometimes it not, it happens when going back and forth at almost full lock left. it almost feels as though its the steering box, or in there somewhere. you can feel it underneath, but you can feel it throughout alot of the components, it sounds as though its higher and not in the Ujoints, as i listened to those. Its definitely coming from the passenger side too.

Here is a vid. sorry its crap quality and i had to have the engine running to make it easier to turn. But you can still hear it a bit.

Any ideas? I really think its in the steering, but when turning those U joints in the arm that comes out of the firewall look good, i didnt see them flopping or play in them. But not to say there isnt.

Try posting the video to youtube or someplace it can be viewed without an account. Not everyone does facebook.

So, since I cant view the video, Im guessing u-joint. Just get under it and start trying to wiggle things around. Whatever is loose, is the problem.

weird i set it to public hoping everyone can view it. going to youtube.

it wasnt coming from the Ujoint, im sure of it.

i have read about track bar/steering box bolts.

the trackbar at the frame, i couldnt budge those bolts. I was able to tighten the steering box bolts, one almose 3/4 turn, the other 2 about 1/4 turn. is there a 4th I dont know about? hard to see laying under it with a shop light. ill link to youtube in a few.

So tightening those bolts up did nothing.

I didnt have help today, but tried to figure out where the heck its coming from. I am almost positive its from the steering. But not sure where along the lines, im thinking in the box.

What i did today was jack up the front, with the tires still on, and turned it, the noise got quieter and seemed to shift on turning right this time, with once or twice when turning left.

the noise always happens when almost in full lock.

EDIT: Hopefully I can get my buddy over tonight to help me for a bit track it down.

Youre positive its not the u-joint in the steering? Honestly, with that loud of a pop, it shouldnt be hard to find it after spending 10 minutes under it. But yeah, having someone help you should make it real easy because there is a lot under there that could be doing it (ujoints, ball joints, TRE's, etc.).

Are you talking about the ujoints on the steeing arm that run from the firewall to the gear box? If so I mean I'm sure that's possible.

As far as the track bar, the noise doesn't appear to come from there and I checked the bolts, well the lowers, I couldn't budge them. I haven't check the 2 nuts in the driver wheel well yet.

Well, turns out it was the track bar. At least 99% sure on that. With a clearer head I stopped by while passing my house on the way to lunch. Took a look at the trackbar bolt, saw a little gap, was like wtf and got my tools. RE requires you to drill out a 5/8 hole and put in their bolt and locknut. The locknut was a pita with a ratchet, so I got the impact out, thought it was good. Well I used the old elbow grease and got like 2 turns on it at least. No more noise that I could hear. So looks like it was a pretty easy fix. Crossing fingers.

a quick test for the trac bar, while idling, have someone turn, or rock the wheel side to side and look at the frame side joint of the trac bar, if its real bad you can see or hear the truck bounce a little, if there is any movement, you are going to need a new trac bar. But the loose bar can cause the mount on the frame side to wear out the hole, causing damage to the mount, if its damaged, you'll need a new mount.
