A muffler does not make the lope sound you're wanting. Mufflers can have different tones and levels of loadness but not idle sounds u need a cam for that

Yeah cams can get expensive, it's basically a shaft that has lobes on it, it turns and opens/closes the valves in the motor. If you get one with longer duration or higher lift (bigger lobes) it will use more fuel, but produce more power, along with that choppy idle that sounds so sweet

But that lopey sound at idle is sign of an over camed engine, and would be impractical in a Cherokee unless your going to race it

Alot of guys like using a flowmaster 40 or 50 but u will never get a lope from a muffler just louder and better tones. A high duration cam is not what u want in a stock 4.0 not a good combo for a wheeler and before anyone gives me crap for saying that i mean in this case lol

40 series are the way to go. I LOVE my flowmaster, And I think it's the closest to a "V8" sound you can get out of a stock 4.0, probably because flowmasters have such a distinct tone on all motors.

I started mine up when it has just the header and down pipe on while doing my exhaust. You for sure get the idle lope. It's deafening loud though.

Any really. I actually bought mine used so I couldn't tell you which it is, I believe it's a 40 based on the noise level. 44 will be a bit quieter, but the 40 isn't deafening especially with a full pipe. A 50 will be the quietest, and generally speaking a 10 series will be the loudest, but it will have a little less of that distinctive tone. Whatever you choose I think you will like it. The other thing I like about my Flowmaster is that the chambering breaks up the exhaust enough to kill most of the drone associated with modifying a 4.0's exhaust. There's no drone at all on the highway and it's limited to the 1200-1600 rpm range at slow speeds. Drone might not seem like a big deal now, but you'll appreciate it a lot less after a few miles on the interstate.

Thrush weld is IMO the best bang for your buck, it's exactly like the super 40 but a lot cheaper

The Thrush Welded is an exact copy of the Flowmaster 40. The patent Flowmaster had for the 40s ran out and they never renewed it so Thrush literally copied the entire design.

I just ordered the Thrush Welded from Advanced for $40 shipped. It should be here sometime this week hopefully, I might take a video and post it on YouTube. Just depends on how my camera does at picking up the sound.

Also, is the plah plah plah plah sound you are referring to like pops after you let off the the gas or more kind of at idle?

Pops (a ton of pops BTW lol)

Cam
