P.O did a terrible lift job, should I just go back to stock?

as for progress on the jeep, I got the top ball joint out easily but the bottom one is giving me a hard time. tried my best to keep the press from going on an angle but it ended up bending like they normally do. I'm gonna use my oxy acetylene torch tomorrow to heat up the metal surrounding the lower joint while I have the press on the ball joint to see if I can get it to pop out.

read through this- I too bought an XJ and the P.O. had a terrible lift on it. I considered going back to stock but I knew I wanted it to be lifted at some point so I took it in the *** upfront and decided to swap the RC 4.5" lift the P.O. installed for an OME 3.5"- hoping for a better ride from high quality parts. well here I am day 3 of it being at the shop, having them call me with word the spring buckets were rusted out on the front axle, the upper shock bolts snapped, they snapped the rear shock mounting bolt removing the old lift... tab just keeps going up but I guess that's what happens when you buy a used 16 year old jeep- you hope for the best. lol

Kind of in the same predicament
bought a 98 Jeep Cherokee classic, PO put a 3 inch coil spacer on it, and I’m guessing used shock absorber, but just trying to figure out if I can buy shock absorber from advance auto and not have to take the cool springs off and go back to stock ride

Crown 4886186AA leaf springs (sold each, so order two) - . Crown Automotive 4886186AA Leaf Spring Assembly; For Use w/LT/ZGW/ZVW; Heavy Duty; 4 Leaf;
Zone 2100J 0.75 inch spacers (the Crowns have a little too much lift: these restore the correct front-to-rear ratio) - . Zone Offroad Coil Spring Spacers 3/4" (pair)
Monroe Sensa Trac 37083 front shocks (adequate and a good value, order two) - . Monroe 37083 Sensa-Trac Light Truck Shock Absorber
Monroe Sensa Trac 37027 rear shocks (as above, order two) - . Monroe 37027 Sensa-Trac Light Truck Shock Absorber

...and there you have it. YMMV, but on my 1996 Cherokee XJ Sport, the replacement parts above (except shocks: but I would have used those; I just got a great deal on the monotubes) gave me the equivalent of a 1.75 inch lift, and a brand new HD suspension at a bargain price. If you're reasonably handy with tools, you will save a bundle of money, and be inordinately pleased with the final result.

Really well done. This is one of the best budget lift options I have seen yet.
