OX lockers
Hey guys. Looking to get rid of my Spartan soon and step it up to a selectable locker. As you all know, there is no true E-locker for the 8.25. So after some searching, I found that OX makes something close to an E-locker. With their locker, you can select it to be a cable style, air or electronically actuated. Has anyone dealt with their electric style? I really dont want to put a compressor on board and this looks like it would work. Thoughts?

I don't know much about the OX locker, but if your Jeep is mainly used on the street but still goes off-road, and you don't want a rear auto locker, then you might be better off going with a Detroit truetrac in the rear and a selectable or auto locker in the front. In my opinion a selectable rear locker isn't much use on the street because it is either open or fully locked neither of which is ideal for street use.

Currently, my Jeep is used mostly for off road use and long road trips to off road destinations. In the next couple of months, it may get switched over to DD duties and that is the reason why I want to get rid of the Spartan. Its eating my rear tires faster then the fronts and can be a bit of a pain with my manual trans. I dont mind an open diff on the street. It rarely rains and I dont drive the Jeep like a race car. But it does have to be a legit locker on the trails like the Spartan. I have had a truetrac before and I know I wouldnt be happy with another one. If I put a locker in the front, its going to be an E-locker as well. I am not a big fan of air lockers.

Not happy with a true trac? I was thinkin that is the route I was goin...true trac in rear and a selectable in the front but...
Have you seen the video of e-lockers? How when you lock em in it takes a little roll before they lock and then if you have to reverse they unlock and you have to go forward again to lock. I think it is the Aussie guy videos that shows it. Not sure the Ox when set up electric would do that tho. Ain’t they quite expensive?

I've had an auto locker in both of my cherokees for the last 10-12 yrs (lock right in 1, spartan in the other), and I see no discernible wear differences between the front & rear tires, and I only rotate them once a year.
I have yet to wear out a set of tires.....cut sidewalls, went up in size, but not wear out. The current tires are easily 5 yrs old, and still have over 1/2 the tread left on them.

Idk,
A lunch box is going to wear tires out, Imo of course.
Topic is about an Ox locker for a 8.25 though.
Just having two wires for an electric ox locker sounds appealing. I've read about issues w/ the cable type getting "hung" up and needing adjustment often, I feel that's a installation problem though.
The electric option seems to be a retrofit of the cable version. I've read about problems w/that set-up to.
That being said...
I would get the cable version, I like the mechanical shifter.

I run a Grizzly locker in my YJ in the rear, 8.8, and for being shorter wheel base than an XJ it's way well behaved. At most the tires may chirp a little giving it gas on sharp turns but thats it. Kills it offroad.
