Default Overhead console transplant

I am in the process of stripping some parts from my buddy's recently retired zj and the overhead console s one of the pieces. The zj is a 97 the Xj is a 96 I know I have to do some wiring to make it work but what components do I need from the zj to make most of it work. I have the console and the temp sensor, am I missing anything? And has any body done this/ have any diagrams or info on making it work?

I can tell you that it is almost impossible to make work. I f your really good with wiring you can make it read the direction only. Temp and everything else wont work. Then there is the issue of installing it on the ceiling. It mounts complete different than the xj OHC.

If you still want to give it a try u need the wiring harness that goes down the passenger a pillar to add to your list.

There are some extensive threads on NAXJA.com about the subject. Someone on there got it work mostly.

good luck, but honestly I think its not worth the effort. Your best best is to find one at the JY. I know, it took me six months to find one and I almost had to lay down a beating as someone was trying to pull it from my wheel barrel.

Here are some pics of ine

Thanks for the info. Nice job on the headliner. The digital camo is pretty awesome looking.

just go to your local fabric store, get looked at funny for being the only guy in there and head straight to the camo section. 3 1/2 yards will be plenty.

While we are on the subject did you re use the original insulation put new fabric over it or did you make the headliner all from scratch?

I just took the old headliner off brushed it all off with a broom and glued the new fabric on when u glue just go from the middle to the out side edge and use the spray glue on the back of the fabric and the headliner
The worst part is taking down all the trim I also went ahead and isulated the roof with some r4 I had in the garage

What LEDs did you use? I was wanting to put some in mine but I was looking for something that was more directional instead of the usual ones with the LEDs around the perimeter.

Default oh console

i put a 96 xj console in my 1992 sport. i got the console assembly the wire harness temp sensor and the mounting brackets from one vehicle. When i went to install the wiring I found several inconsistencies between the 92 and 96 the harness had the same plugs but different wire to pin locations. I cobbled both the stock dome light harness and the other harness together using several wiring diagrams. If I can find my notes that I made I will scan them and post or send them to you. Best advice is tackle one function at a timerecovering if needed, fitment and mounting, Lights, temp and compass

The OHC you used is from an XJ. He is talking about taking a ZJ OHC into an XJ.

i used 9 led smd t10 bulbs , bought them on ebay , i believe you can fit 13 leds if you want but those 9 light up really nice.
