Overhead console
There is an 1993 Cherokee overhead console available in my area. What mods would have to be accomplished to install it in my 1998 Cherokee SE?

Ok then....has anyone put an overhead console in their Cherokee that didn't have one from the factory? If so, how did you go about it?

My 1998 has a console, so I never researched it. But I would guess you need on from a 1997+. My son has a 1989 without the console, so I have been checking the local junk yards. I now have an overhead console from a 1989, a 1991, and a 1994 Dodge Caravan. Don't limit yourself to just Jeeps, look at all the Chrysler offerings. You may be surprised at what you find. It is not just the console, but the mounting bracket and the wiring harness you need.
My advice would be go to a local u-pull-it yard. When they finally do get a Cherokee with a console, pull the console, the brackets, the sun shades (Yes, they are different), and the wiring harness.
Don't worry about the color, because you can recover all of that.
Here is a link you can look at.

-1996 and 97+ are not interchangeable.... consoles are completely different shapes.
Anything 97-01 will work, however there are minor differences where the wiring plugs into the passenger kick panel.
Like XJRat said, get the console, bracket(there's only 1), and wiring. If you already have lighted mirrors, they aren't any different.
A lot of those NAXJA links are dead... but PM me if you find an OHC for something that isn't '98, I have the OHC wiring diagrams for all 5 years and it's pretty easy to get everything working. Also have a few write-ups saved for installing the console itself.

yeah, i kind have the same question about the overhead consoles. i've got one a guy claimed came out of a 91, should fit in my 89, but the dome light mounts dont line up and the visors are too close together. my 96 that I'm Parting out seems to have the right spacing, and i was going to swap out the headliners and put new fabric on everything so it matches.
