over heating
So the other day i was driving back up this long hill in the woods and i noticed my temp gauge creeping up slowly (didnt jump up so no worries) then as i got to the top and it flattened out the temp gauge jump right up to 260. I then shut off it off and let it cool down so i can get out of the woods, once i got out i drove about 50 feet and it jumped up again. I let it cool down again and noticed that my overflow tank was basically empty so i ran home (thank god i was right up the street) grabbed some water and filled the radiator and overflow tank. I went home and now is where my decision comes in, should i regear so my engine isnt working as hard to push my 35s? (Yes i am on stock gearing) or option two should i hook up my fans to a manual switch and get a new electric water pump and hook them up to a secondary battery? What would be the most profitable? Thanks alot!

I would first figure out where you coolant went. Why was it low in the first place? Then I have to ask what maintenance has been done--like when the last coolant change was, last water pump/radiator/thermostat change.

Same thing happened to me when my jeeps head cracked.
Don't go thinking, "Mines a 99 it can't crack" because that's exactly what happened to mine.
My 0630 head casting cracked. Cost me about $600 to fix everything and i did all the work. Don't just throw parts at it. Figure out where the coolant went.

Oh yea i forgot to mention that when i stopped in the woods i let it sit for awhile and opened the radiator cap and alot of the coolant came out, so thats where it went, and i did a coolant change in the fall and a thermostat a little less than a year ago

is your electric fan working? they are supposed to come on when temps reach 218, to help cool down....you got an issue, something is not functioning properly.
did you flush everything out when you changed the coolant in the fall? Have you drove it on the road since you filled up the coolant? if so is it still overheating?
