Default Outer axle seals

Any one ever install these outer axle seals? They look to replace the cheapo plastic covers on your front axle with a grease able bushing type seal. Seen em online from $45-$55. Looks like a good idea to keep my inner seals going from the outside. Curious on any thoughts or experience.

I've sold lot of them.
Easy installation, just make sure you grease them from time to time.

I have them on my D30, bought them from Frank ^ Like he said you gotta keep them greased for them to work. I lube every zerk at each oil change, and they have been working fine for a couple of years now. I guy I used to know didn't lube them and the rubber sleeves wore out pretty fast.

They aren't true seals. They keep trash out of the tubes. If they are fully greased they will hold out a lot of stuff that would otherwise get in there and wreak havoc, like mud that turns to dirt and then destroys the inner seals.

Well it's apart now, so seems like the time to do it. Does frank have a web store?

Sorry, couldn't see the link on my phone, checking it out on my computer now.

They work great till you break a shaft then you get to buy another set. My inner seals work just fine on mine and as long as they are good these aren't necessary.

Well I've put it back together for now to get it out of the garage, but as fast as I've gotten at pulling the axles now (and making sure the hubs have anti seize on them) I will probably put some on before spring Jeeping starts. Thanks for the input.

I just bought a set of these outer axle seals too, along with all the parts to rebuild my front end.

So what do you glue these seals in with...so you can come back later and remove an axle if necessary without destroying them?

From the looks, I thought they were just friction fit. Don't think there 100% water tight seal. Just for the thicker, chunkier stuff. Correct me if I'm wrong.

They are a friction fit into the axle tubes, start with a clean tube.
The axle shafts are then pushed in, I suggest a light code of oil when installing the shafts.

With a regular application of grease they will keep your shafts dry. I would not recommend parking underwater for prolonged periods....cuz that's just silly.

They don't interfere with removing the axle shaft normally--you can swap shafts with these installed NP.

The large piece is friction fit in the tube and keeps the chunky stuff out. The channel inside is filled with grease and provides the "seal" that keep liquid out. The axle shaft slips in and out like normal.

xjmarc was making the point that if you break an axle, and the broken part is inside the shaft (between the diff and the seal) then you might have some trouble getting the broken part out without disassembling or removing the seal.
