Oil filter relocation/adapter delete?
Hello again
I like many have been dealing with the oil filter adapter leak for a while. Only lately I learned about it.
i have read and even watched videos about where people have removed the filter and adapter then used the part from the adapter to screw a different oil filter directly to the block.
I have also seen kits that mount to where the oil filter would go and relocate the filter elsewhere even with the option of using 2 filters.
could I assume then that with the right size kit I could delete my 90° adapter and mount a relocation kit directly to the block?
If it can work that way how do I know what size mounts to the block?

I have looked at doing this but It doesn't look like there would be room to put a filter on if you removed the adapter, which is why they put an adapter on there to begin with.

yes it is true with a Cherokee the unibody frame would be in the way of a filter being mounted to the block but the clearance for a filter relocation kit like I mentioned is much better then even the adapter.

The adapter is alright so long as the o-rings are in good shape. I noticed that the large one from the factory is square-edged and kind of plasticy while the replacement was just a standard rubber o-ring (which is probably better than the stock one).
I like running an oversized filter, so I just kept the adapter on after replacing the rings.

I've actually decided to go ahead with the mod but I would like to know if the mounting location for the adapter is the same gasket diameter as the filter that that attaches to it and if not does anyone know what diameter I should order? I don't want to end up with mismatched gasket diameters
also I'm sorry if I seem rude but I feel like when I ask questions on here I'm always met with questions and criticism rather then answers. I do have my reasons for wanting to do the things I want to do.
for those that are wondering why I've considered this it's simply because I plan on running dual filters both for the increase in oil capacity and also because using amsoil Sig series I run somewhat longer then average change intervals and would like the added piece of mind that the filters can do the job longer. As a side note did you know that the 90 in the adapter is a bottleneck for oil flow compared to the input and output on the adapter and in the block? I don't know if it actually impedes flow but Its a little fin fact for you.

What year is your Cherokee?
91 and later used a very common Ford filter size.
I had a Datsun Z that I installed an oil cooler and remote filter on and parts were easy to find way back then. Again, the Z used a Ford filter......

not to be rude but....I have seen 300k miles on the stock set up with conventional oil in my personal xj just how long do you plan to keep yours? running dual filters and amsoil is a waste of money... period!!! the 50+ year old tractor design inline 6 does not benefit from over lubrication.

Don't know if this helps but on the Buick V6 in my CJ2A I used to run a dual filter set up. Capped off where the filter would normally go and had lines running to and from the dual filter setup.
