offroad lights and spare tire recommendations ?
Hey guys just got a quick question as I will be traveling about 1200miles and Im looking to get some cheap offroad lights so I can see better as it gets pretty dark being in the middle of no where lol. Any full set kits you guys recommend ?Or what offroad lights and wiring to get if I should get it separate. I was thinking just 2 lights on the front bumper.
Also I will be getting a full spare tire and have american outlaws 2 rims which are alloys, does it matter if my spare is a steel wheel ? Lastly any good spots to throw the full spare itl be a 31x10.50? I dont have a roof rack but was thinking bout throwing it on top of the roof on the stock rails and then strapping it down. good idea or bad ?
Thanks everyone. Trying to get prepared for this trip.

Buy some cheap harbor freight lights, theyre bright as ****, and just keep it in the back of the jeep, Itll hurt your mileage. Yes a steel wheel will work fine

Alright thanks, problem is i cant keep it inside as Im packing some stuff to take with me, so I wont have room in the back for the tire. I also have a sub in the back hehe. Think my only option is the roof.

A 31" tire will fit right where the factory spare was. Just remove that little black L bracket from the corner and you should be good to go.

Just run to walmart or tractor supply and see if they have any cheap off road lights. As far as mounting the tire you might be able to strap it too the top, but if your traveling that far make sure its secured well.

Thanks I went out and bought the harborfreight lights for 25 bucks i mounted them but now for inside the cabin. Where do i get power to the switch ? I have a 98 xj and some ppl say to use the fuse box but I dont understand how and to which one i would connect it so it turns on with the keys on position only.
Im sure you guys know what Im talking about I Just dont know which wire or where to get the power for the switch. Otherwise I would have been done today except for mounting the switch.
Let me know guys.

31x10.5 in the back. I have a sub in there now as well, but I dont have an updated picture. On the roof would suck for gas mileage. I can really feel it when I have mine on the roof.
For highway driving, you probably want long-throw spotlights because even offroad flood lights will be too bright with traffic around.
Something like these would be awesome (I am partial to Olympus beacause they are local, and I have heard these lights are amazing bang for buck):

Or get some cheaper halogens. Anything is better than the pathetic stock XJ headilghts anyway.

If you need the interior space, get a hitch mounted cargo or tire carrier. The tire carriers fold down out of the way when you need to open the hatch. The cargo carriers can also hold additional items.

yes the cheap stock lights suck *** but im waiting until i get them truck led lights its my next project.
As for wiring I have a fuse and relay just need to get power to the switch.
I will take a look at the tire carriers thats not a bad idea. Totally forgot they have them for the hitch, thought i would need a new bumper that comes with a tire carrier.

Get a roof rack off of craigslist. I got an aluminum one that could fit a 37" tire for 50 bucks. All I had to do was paint it. I rigged up my cherokee with some HF lights. Those cost me 20 bucks. My buddy has KC lights and there is no visible difference and you can buy 6 sets of HF lights for the price of one set of KC lights. No brainer to me. Just make sure that each light is grounded otherwise they will not be bright at all. I had one that was not grounded very well and one that was and it looked pretty stupid having a super bright one and one that barely lit up.
