Offroad Light Wiring Questions
I have 2 5" Baja Laser Offroad Lights coming in, and I plan to use Detours XJ a-pillar mounts to mount them. What I am trying to figure out is exactly what I will need to wire them. Looking to buy a kit that has it all, BUT I would like a switch that goes right in between the cig lighter and the 12v. The third spot on mine is free. Can anyone point me in the right (and cheap!) direction?
Here's the best pic I could find as my Jeep is in the shop, but right behind the shifter in the picture are those three switches I was talking about. My third one is just covered, but I know there must be a way to remove the cover.
EDIT: and they are 100-130 watt each. Would this work? http://www.quadratec.com/products/97011_120X_PG.htm

At 130watts each those lights will pull around 10A each nominal and will generally peak higher on startup.
That switch probably is rated to 1 amp. You need a relay for each light that can pass 15amps (I like overkill).
Probably use 12awg or better wire for each light to the relay to the battery and probably 20awg between the switch and the relays.
Need a fuse probably 15amp or so inline with each of the lights.

Here's how a relay is typically wired: http://www.weendoggy.com/images/relay_wiring.jpg
Although you can just connect 86 and 30 and put the switch on the ground for ease.

You could definitely use that factory switch! In fact, I am glad that you posted the link because I just put a Smittybilt bumper and light bar on mine and I want to do the same thing. Use the factory switch to trigger the relay (or relays) to turn on the lights. If you use the factory switch you may need to get your hands on a wiring diagram so that you can tell what wires from the switch do what. You can buy the relays, wire and fuse holder and make the harness yourself probably a little cheaper than the kit but either will work great.
