np 242 cnt find sye so should i swap?
Ok so I've done some looking and can't seem to find any info on np 242 t/c sye's. I'm trying to find one so that way when I get up in lift ill have it and it be one less thing to buy later on. The only thing I've found is a hnt and I've been told those are not the best way to go. So should I just swap to a 231with sye, or get the adapter to swap a front d/s to the rear? I've also thought of swaping a np 249 full time t/c in because that's what my grands had and I liked the full time 4x4.

Ran the Hack-n-Tap on my 98 242 for about a year, but couldn't keep a CV joint at the t-case from wearing out. Which would cause the HnT flange to wobble and ruin the splines. So called up Tom Woods and ordered up his SYE yoke style kit and shaft and haven't had an issue since.
I think it's a hit or miss with the HnT's. But for me it was worth it to go with the yoke style SYE kit. It allows you to run a factory front shaft.....bolt-in....on both sides of the t-case.

Just from what I've read on the 231 HnT's people say not to use them cause they wear out fast or break if wheelin hard. Like cartsxj said it just seems to be hit and miss. Yea I've been loookin at the tom woods stuff. When I typed 242 in to the search engine it didn't give me anything lol. I guess it won't hurt to have a HnT on hand since its not that expensive. I'm not shure how big I'm going yet. Right now ima just do a 3 inch with 31s till I get my axles done
