I know that i believed for the front differential you can use an 8.8 from a jeep grand Cherokee i want to know what year can i use
This is my fist time whit an jeep xj 2000 is a project thay i started and im learning as i keep on upgrading it i need all the advice that i can get
Jeep Grand Cherokees used the Dana 30 front just like the Cherokees. What size tires do you plan on running and what rear axle do you have now.
The Grand Cherokee 93-98 front axle will bolt in to an XJ. But it is the same axle you have now. The only bolt in front axle upgrade is from an 03-06 TJ Wrangler Rubicon.

An XJ axle from a 1999 or older would be an upgrade too as it would have the HP D30 not the LP.

What do you mean by match? They are different axles, but they both have the same bolt pattern and the width is pretty close, if that's the answer your looking for. If you are only running 33s then you can keep the Dana 30 front you have now and regear it to the same ratio as the rear axle, most explorer 8.8s have 4.10 gears.

8.8 isn't the ratio it is the ring gear size 8.8 inches. The front and rear axles don't have to have the same size ring gear, but they do have to have the same gear ratio like 3.55, 3.73, 4.10, 4.56 ect.
