Default No flare options?

I want to take the flares off my XJ. I like the flare-less look, but I'm not going to be trimming them since I'm only going to be running 30X9.5 tires and 2" of lift. I like the look of the Jeep without flares, but I want a "smooth" look. Any recommendations on how to achieve that?

You could do a slight trim just to remove the lip so you get the smooth look. Hell you should be able to run 31x10.50 on a 2" lift with just that light trimming. Otherwise the only way to make them smooth without trimming will require a lot of custom body work.

Darn. I've seen a few flare-less ones that look pretty smooth using google image search but those were all probably trimmed. And 31's might be an option, but I've already paid for 5 30's.

I would cut and fold to the lip front and rear fenders. I think it looks great. And I wouldn't worry about tires size. Just more flex!

Pretty much your only option is trim to the lip.

Maybe hold off on taking the flares off till you're ready to step up the tire size.

I have a buddy who runs 32s on a 2" lift and it looks sweet.

I like that look and may give it a try once the weather warms up.

that way you still get the functionality of a flare to stop road spray and mud, but it opens up the wheel well

You can also use pipe insulation and some may have used rubber heater hose and use that as a guard to go along the metal where the fenders once were. I have seen this used especially if the fenders were trimmed up and had nothing reinstalled. There are pictures if you google it. It is a pretty simple and cheap way to gain more clearance as well as keep a reasonable look to your XJ rather than hacked up fenders...

I found some fancy rubber stripping that I think is for shower doors. Worked well for the front.
