Default New truck stereo

I am planning on installing a new truck stereo in my 96 XJ. My only question is will I typically need an adapter to install one or not? By adapter I mean to get the stereo to fit.

-Thanks!

Yes. You need to give some more information though like what kind of "truck stereo".

If it is a normal head unit you will just need a wiring harness and the metal bracket from the stock head unit to hold it in place

Default Stereo

I am just looking to install a basic stereo unit that does not have a CD player in it but has multiple aux inputs. Thanks for the previous info from the blog. Any recommendations or tips would be helpful.

I recently installed an older model ken wood single disc, I bought the harness off eBay, $7 took 8 mins to wire up the harness, I pulled the stock stereo, connected the harness and simply installed the "new" one, all is good

scosche and metra both make harness kits.

Does your head unit have a harness attached to it?
If it's not like the oem stereo, you'll need a dash install kit as well, metra makes those too.

Default OEM

Yeah, the XJ has the OEM stereo. I figured I needed a dash kit of some kind. Thanks for the info.
