New Motor!! HO option upgrade??
Ok so I called to order a remanufactured long block today an as I was speaking with the guy he says they offer a HO performance upgrade for 290 more which comes included with mild upgraded cam shaft from speed comp up to 285 degrees, shaving the head, high volume oil pump, stiffer valve springs, and a 3 angle valve job. My questions after hearing that are, if I buy the package will there be anything else ill have to do to the map sensor/tranny so the tranny still shifts right? And do yous think spending the 290 is worth it? The sales rep says I should get a 15 percent increase in hp but I don't know about that. Opinions or suggestions?

You'll be fine leaving everything else alone.

It sure sounds tempting to me. An extra 25-30HP would be nice!
Who is the (re) manufacturer, or who are you buying through?
FI, trans and all will be fine. A bored throttle body and upgraded injectors would give you even more of a boost.

www.strokedjeep.com has the best deal on throttle bodies. I've used 4 of them on different Jeeps with excellent results.

Have the guy put a 7120 head from a 91-95 4.0 if you really want it to benefit from the bigger cam. All an engine is is a glorified air pump. The more air you pump through it the more power you get.

That's supposedly the best 4.0 head casting with the highest flow. If you.want to make much more power port the head. Go on standard abrasive website. They have a walk through. I would def do that with the other upgrades. You will make some serious power. Also an adjustable map sensor would be an important addition to tune your a/f ratio. You will be introducing more air and need more fuel. If it was a mass air type setup the ecu would do it for you but its not.

Well, called the company to see about the 7120 head/ having either head ported and the answer was thats speed shop work.....although i would like to complain i cant because i havent found anywhere else that even remotely matches their price for what you get 1490 for the long block, 198 round trip shipping, 290 for the HO upgrade option. Guess the ported 7120 head is a project for the future unless anyone knows a better company to buy from or has a suggestion? As a after thought, anyone know where to pick up a adjustable map sensor?

so you could get a JY 7120 head and have a basic 3 angle valve job done on it or you mortgage your house to pay some speed shop to port and polish an inferior head to get the same flow results. The decision is yours.

Have you ever heard the phrase "you can't polish a turd"? Well, you can't port and polish one either.
