New Mean Green Alternator 2000 Cherokee
 

I bought a Mean Green Alternator for my 2000 Cherokee Sport base on the internet description. To my surprise the instructions said that the stock braket may need to be slightly clearanced. Well I called Mean Green and they indicated it was the front braket. .It appears it is acutally the aluminum braket on the side of the engine block. I bought this thing to have a new and not rebuilt alternator and because it was a supposed bolt on ready unit. I am not a fabricator. Is there a after market braket available that will allo this to be bolted on ?

Have you ever used a grinder before? It really is very straight forward. I wouldn't let that scare you off. Just clearance the bracket a bit.

Well Sir I did use a grinder on the front bracket and it did not work. The right angle of the aluminum bracket prevents use of a grinder where it is apparently hitting. I guess if my time were no issue I could use a dremel tool for hours. So I guess there are no aftermarket brackets

Where exactly is it hiting? It shouldn't be any larger physically than a ZJ alternator, and it only took me ~5 minutes with a cheap harbor Freight grinder to get it to it.
The alternator to block bracket should come off pretty easily

Thanks for the pics. With the help of Harbor Freight and their new package of rotary rasps I was able to eliminate enough of the aluminum off of the side bracket and clean it up with a dremel fairly quickly. I also had to
remove some more of the steel in a couple of more spots on the front bracket. The Mean Green is installed. Again thanks for your help investinwaffles

Good time to consider doing a wiring upgrade to accommodate the increased amp capacity.
A CherokeeForum member makes a really good quality set (XJ Wonders)
Should be bolt-on for the most part. I would go with 2 gauge if you plan on installing high amp accessories like a winch
