Default new 4.5 rc lift death wobble

well i put the first hundred miles on my new lift today. Well i decided to take the freeway home and I hit a pot hole and got death wobble. I have stock tires on it as of right now, and i also dont run any sway bars. My old 93 had that problem but come to find out it was just the drop trac bar mount was lose and the steering stabilizer was also. Im going to go threw and make sure that everything is tight this weekend. But does anyone have any ideas on what i should check along the way??? like i said my 93 had a 6inch lift and that those where the only thing i had to do to fix the death wobble. One other thing I havent gotten a chance to get a alignment yet. my 2000 xj dd has been broke down and i just had to get to work so i drove it.

Get an alignment? That fixed mine...theres a lot of things it could be...tie rod ends, bushings, wheel balance...blah blah...im thinking, most likely its the toe-in angle, which has to be exacltly 0...also caster angle has to be between 3 and 5.5 degrees. So i'd just start out with an alignment and go from there, because after you install a lift it messes up all that stuff

actually the toe in on the full time 4x4 trucks is 0, the part time ones is like 1/16"-1/8" iirc

are they adjustable controll arms? Your caster can be a little off too. If you want to eye ball it the easiest way to guesstimate (real word) is that the spring mounts on the axle are as level as possible. check the track bar too.

no they are not adjustable control arm the kit just came with the none adjustable ones and the leaf springs, the t-case drop mounts and shock and the relocation mounts for the brake lines. I plane on getting a alignment done soon. I got my other one running so im going to keep working on it so i can get out to the trails. I just need to get it fix because i dont have a trailer and i have to drive it to and from the trails.

Get it aligned. castor has a large contributing factor. I would bet something is loose. check the jamb nut on the track bar also. make sure everything is tight.
and if you aer using stock style tie rod ends and rubber suspension bushings then the toe should be set 1/16 in.

If the wobble only happens when ya hit a bump or pothole at speeds higher than 50mph then it may just b the steering stabilizer!!

Speaking from EXPERIENCE.... I replaced A LOT of stuff trying to fix this problem only to find out $450 later that it was just the steering stabilizer...... but hey I have almost a whole new steering setup now and most important of all, NO MORE DEATH WOBBLE!!

Oh yeah.... and I have the 4.5 RC lift as well.... with 33/12.50-15's!!!

A steering stabilizer can help. but wont actually cause death wobble. just cover it up.

Never said it CAUSED it!!! Hitting a pothole at 50mph CAUSED it and a BAD STEERING STABILIZER allowed it to happen!! I drove it all over the place and never had a problem till I hit a big bump or pothole at speeds of 50mph or more and replaced d*** near everything attached to the steering and even had the toe checked the camber and castor checked and NOBODY could find a LOGICAL answer for it until one day just by chance I took my stabilizer off and found that it had ABSOLUTELY NO RESISTANCE..... changed it and never had a problem since and I've even drove 2000 miles in 2 days at 70-95mph from Oklahoma to Oregon!!

when you say it fixed it. your saying it was the cause. hitting a bump in the road may have triggered it. but it isn't the "cause" a loose component or miss alignment is. A stabilizer only covers it up. there is another issue. just saying don't throw stuff at it, find the real cause.

I am not saying you did anything wrong with your vehicle. I had death wobble, put a stabilizer on it and it went away. good quick way to make it not happen to be safe while driving it. but the real problem was my caster, my lift was not adjustable. So I ran a stabilizer until I could afford my LA setup. No issues now that my caster is in.

Mechanically you should never have death wobble. Something is loose enough for the wheel or axle to move. Stabilizers help with shimmys an such but are no solution. Now if it's a suspension wobble it won't help anyway.
