Default need some axle advice

ok well, i have a d35 in my rig right now, it needs bearings and found out yesterday i need axle seals. I was also told the the axle is self is making noise (always thought it as just the worn bearings) So my question is would it be easyer to rebuild the axle? and replace all the worn parts? i changed the diff oil in it about a week or so ago, and the gears all looked fine, or would it be easyer to just swap it out? if i swapped it out i'd like to put in a 8.25, i dont plan on running a locker till possibly the end of the summer. if i swap it out should i look for a 8.25 with posi? what are some things i should look for and know when looking for a new axle, again or should i just rebuild my current one?

Look for a 29 spline 8.25 if you want bolt-in or d44. The d44's are rare in xj's though. If you don't mind some fab, many people run ford 8.8's.

look for an XJ d44, or a 29 spline 8.25 from a 97 or later XJ. Direct bolt in and both plenty strong

I wouldn't put any money into a Dana 35

So I should look for a 8.25 out of a pre 97 or one from a 97-01

97-01, they have 29-spline shafts, 84-96 have 27-spline shafts. Although either one is an upgrade from the 35 if you can't find a 97+

Just get one that has the same gear ratio as your front axle.

I found a guy who maybe parting out a 2000 xj with 131k miles on it, it has a 8.25 non posi in good shape, what would be a good offer to make for it?

On average what I see in my area is about 125-150$ per axle try 100$ depending on condition, what do you got to loose?
