Need more power!
So I just upgraded my jeep new 3in lift with 31s 4.0 5 speed. I lost alot of power and torque as expected. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestion about how I can make sure I'm getting the most power out of it. And if there are any simple engine upgrades to add I little power, cold air intake?
Or would I have to do something more serious like Regearing maybe? Or anything else.
I pull my boat alot with my jeep and I really need the most power I can get.

Most 5-speeds came with 3.07 gears. Your best option is to regear. It may be cheaper to swap axles instead of regearing the ones you have.

regearing will give you the most noticeable feel but youre revs are gonna go up so if you do alot of hiway driving its something to consider. here is a chart i found its kind of confusing and it takes a second to download but it might help

3.07 - used with 4.0L engine / manual transmission
3.31 - only available on older (pre87?) 2 door XJs with "Fuel Economy" package
3.55 - used with 4.0L engine with automatic transmission; also used with 2WD 4-cyl engines (possibly 4WD as well) equipped with the 4-speed manual transmission
3.73 - found in some XJs with the towing package
4.10 - used with 2.5L engine usually, and older XJs with the "Off-Highway Vehicle" package.

How much do axles usually cost? And I would have to do a front and rear axle swap?
Sorry bout all the question I don't know much about this particular subject.

You'll be happy with 3.55 while towing your boat. With 31's it should drive pretty close to stock.
Around here you can get axles for around 100 bucks a piece on craigslist. And yes you'll need to do both the front and rear.
When you get the axles, you should get the chrysler 8.25, 29 spline is preferred and stronger, but a 27 spline will work just as well. You also want the High Pinion Dana 30 axle without the vaccum disconnect. Easiest way to get that would be to get one from an xj from 92-96 if i remember correctly, however my memory is pretty fuzzy right now.

No problem. If you need any help with anything a good place to ask is here, there's usually always somebody watching to answer pretty quickly.
