Default Need Help on Which R&P Do i need!!

Hi, the thing is i got this 4.0 l6 but as you guys saw on fast and furious fuel in my country is like liquid gold , so decided to swap to a 2.5l TDI engine , the thing is whenever climbing a hill the jeep lost speed and power and had to press the gas almost to full to get it trough , so went to re-gear the axles , and the guy from the sop told me that i needed smaller RyP (with less tooth's ) to have more strength when climbing a hill , but as i research i have noticed that everyone uses larger RyP to gain more torque , so i really need some advice on which ones i really need , less tooth gears or more ?

i have read that the best ones that would suit me are the 4.88, the one that comes with a 8 teeth pinion and 39 teeth ring...

and if this is the one that i should use , which RyP i need on the front axle

Ps, i have D30 and D35 axles...

im really confused on this ill appreciate your help , thanks in advance...

Front and rear have to match and 4.88 is as low as you can go with those axles. I'm not familiar with the diesels but most don't run that low of a gear with the 4L unless you have 35" tires. Very good chance you'll need to swap the carrier in the front and possibly the rear depending on what gears you are currently running.

lower gear=numerically higher.
like 4.88 would be lower than 3.55, but higher numerically. I think maybe that is your confusion

I'm not sure if they come with different gears in the republic, but here most autos has 3.55 gears. I would pull some axles out of a Cherokee with 4.10 gears to put in. The cost to regear to 4.88 can be pricey! & 4.10 gears should be plenty powerful unless your running bigger than a 35" tall tire!

As for cigars are there any that you recommend? What's the price in dollars please?

Yes you will need the same gear ratio front & rear, but the Dana 30 R&P wont fit in the DANA 35. 4.88 gears are overkill just to climb hills though. You shouldn't need more than 4.56

What size tires are on it?

The Xj's we have here are the same as yours , they bring it from usa , im running normal tires 135/75/15 , its just that because of the engine swap i have no power or torque as you call it , id just like to know in case i cant find the 4.88 or if the price gets to high i need to know how many teeth does the RyP of the 4.10 gears have , so they wont scam me.

As for cigars we have Cohiba , Aurora , Bolivar , Montecristo, ROmeo y Julieta ,La Flor Dominicana, La Habanera.
here are made most of the brands you can find in the world , i believe that the most famous are the cohiba , romeo y julieta , and most use aurora , i really dont know the exact price on each unit but i could get you some , just send me your address and as soon as i collect several ill send them to you!

one other thing the carriers in you present axles will not work with 410 or higher ring and pinion getting axles from a donor xj a 4 cyl in it they have factory 410 gears would be the cheapest way .the way you figure out gear ratio is you divide the smaller number into the larger number like i have factory 410s from a 4cyl in my xj. the ring gear has 39 and pinion has 11 divide pinion into ring .

Divide the number of teeth on your ring gear by the number of teeth on your pinion and you will get the ratio. So if the ring gear has 41 teeth, & the pinion has 9 teeth. 41 divided by 9 = 4.56 gear ratio.

I'm unsure exactly what the tooth count is on each set of gears, but this method will tell you what gears you have before & after the shop replaces them.

ok , thats what someone told me to do , get the gears from a 4cyl xj , but the thing is that when i went to the junk they told me that the axles we saw belonged to a 4 cyl but i had no way to believe him besides didnt knew if i was needing more or less teeth.

if the ones they have doesnt fits my carrier then i should deal with the whole axle thing i dont want cause those are really rusted, but ill check and let you know .

The reason I recommend the whole axle is setting gears are not for novice mechanics! It is a precise task that shouldn't be taken lightly!
