Need Help with Interior lighting

My 94 XJ I got has no carpet, no roof liner, no dome lights, nothing like that. I know at one point it had to of had it all. I like it not having a roof liner or carpet but I need the light. In fact I'd like to do a dome like for the cargo as well. I bought a 16ft LED strip from Amazon but its the 12v power. How can I plug this into my Jeeps battery without having to go through a relay or anything like that? I want a diagram or something.

Lmao without a relay? You must not like your jeep that much.

Lol for real.

OP, that's 12V DC not AC right. Why no Relay. Just run wire through the fire wall to the battery. Plus we can't help you if you don't specify which light you have.

Are the dome light wires still there? If so just hook it up to that if you really want. But I would do a relay

Here is a pic of the basics on how to run a switch and relay.

Its 12v DC. I just want a basic light, switch, fuse, resistor setup. I don't really know much about relays or doing vehicle electronics. I want to be as simple as possible. But I realize I have more than a 12v battery in my Jeep yaknow.

What voltage battery do you have then?

Dimitri95 Aug 25, 2015 12:25 PM

Oh my bad apparently it is a 12v. I'm used to the smaller 12v batteries. shows how much I know about car electronics :sweatdrop:

*sniff sniff*

Anybody else smell smoke?

There's "as simple as possible", and "burn your Jeep down". You know about fuses, so that's a good thing.

The diagram Duma tossed up is what you need.

As simple as possible WITHOUT burning my jeep down. It's all good though. I'm probably going to end up growing the relay way. Seems a lo safer:D

As simple as possible would be a hot wire from the battery, through an inline fuse, to the switch, to the light. Then ground the light.

I imagine you could locate the stock dome light harness, test it for function and compatibility with your LED strip.
Also look for the wire harness for footwell lights, above hood release.

I tapped into the footwell lights for these like Steve said.

1. I found the dome light wiring harness. It has a yellow, black, and red wire. When I hook the LED strip to the red and black wire its solid and nothing turns it off but when i hook into the red and yellow it works perfectly. SOOO.. what is that black (assuming its ground) wire doing there?

2. THERE IS A HARNESS FOR FLOOR LIGHTS IN THE 94 XJ???????? Can i get pics of the wires and how its all wired up??
