I want to install a high mount brake light but not sure how to do to. Does it matter which brake light I buy or does it have to be specifically for my 1993 XJ? I was thinking of trying to wire it into the wires on the left hand side of the hatch but I don't know which ones to wire into and all that. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Well, first off, welcome.

Secondly, as long as it is a 12volt light, just about any light will work as long as it fits in the place you want to put it in.

Thirdly, to do the job, just dive in. Remove one of the rear tail lights (three 10mm bolts and then pull up and you have it). then find the light that gets bright when you put on the brake, and that will be the one to splice into.

However you should see a wire hanging there with a connector on it that goes to nowhere (unless your jeep already comes with a towing package), You can just see which one throws juice out when you apply the brake and use that (you do have a voltmeter right?).

Yes, and thank you for the reply. I'm just ordering a light off Amazon and when it gets here I will just jump in and figure it out.
