Default NC Muffler and cat question??

I have a 89 so I know I don't have to have emissions, but I'm gutting my cat, and reinstalling it so I have it underneath the jeep, is it legal to be without a muffler? Basically straight pipe it after the cat?

Depends on the shop inspecting it and if it loud enough to offend the police and the ticket you for it. There's always a shady inspection place that won't care.

Nc state law says you have to have a muffler, but a few of my friends have trucks that are straight piped. It will be difficult to get it inspected and you can get pulled over for having an overly loud exhaust, but you shouldn't have to worry about that in a jeep. They are not that loud straight piped. Best of luck.

If its drove on the roads i would run a muffler,Never willingly give the cops a reason to pull you over they always find more things.

Straight pipes don't sound good, in my opinion anyway. A muffler is what gives it a nice sound. If loud is what you want throw a flowmaster 20 or 40 under there.
