My jeep motor needs help, so help me!

Ill list what i know.
- Check engine light is on
- in park and neutral i idle at around 1250-1500.
-If i rev it, and let if back down it back fires...
-Running really rich.

Really pretty lost as to what i can narrow it down too....

Best bet would be going to autozone somewgere like that they pull codes for free seems to me u got a vac or evap.leak.of some sort causeing the engine to suck air making it idle high an pcm telling engine to dump fuel to counteract the problem get the code pulled an.let me know what it is I can.help better then

Throttle positioning sensor, or something like that. A sensor located in the throttle body. And maybe the Evap Purge Canister Solenoid. Controls the Fuel to air mix ratio. If this goes out, it will send off the check engine light. I've replaced one so far. Easy to replace as well.

But yes, get to Autozone, have them run the OBD2 Scantool, it will tell you what has gone out.
