Moving the axle forward with short arms.

I have a 98 xj with a 4.5 -5 inch lift using rough country lower arms. I was pretty happy with ride quality probably because they have a bend in them instead of a straight arm. Although I wasn’t happy with axle placement, spring arching, and a little tire rub so I had 1/2” spacers made to go in where caster shims would normally go. Of course this involved adjustable uppers too. Check it out.

Based off of this^

1) the bend has nothing to do with ride quality.....the forces still act in a straight line between the upper & lower mounting points. The bend just means they won't be as strong as straight ones. I also thought the bend was for extra clearance, which means it should be up not down.

2) drop brackets would work very well to move the axle forward and give you a MUCH better ride, and you could use straight arms as well.

3) those shims can be bought just about anywhere that does alignments, just maybe not in 1/2"

I had to look at that 2nd pic for a few seconds, between the bolt head and the shadow, it looks like the bolt hole is way too big and oddly shaped......LOL

1. The bend is a very controversial subject. Maybe it just allows clearance for the tire at full lock but either way I can’t see myself breaking these without tearing the mounts off the body or axle first.

2. I’m happy with my ride quality and don’t want to loose clearance or spend the money on drop brackets.

3. I know I can buy 1/8 shims but they are over priced and have a slotted hole. If I stuffed 4 on each side I would worry about them falling out. Ohh and my spacers were free.

This set up worked out really well for me so I figured I would share. I now have no tire rub with 32s and stock flares even with the plastic wheel wells in.

Gotcha.......but not sure the bend being up or down really helps with tire to arm clearance.

Only thing I know helps there is a bend IN, not up or down....like my WJ arms have.....

I too have no tire rub sitting at the same lift height (and still have the plastic liner & stock flares also), and have room to go to 32 or maybe 33 with drop brackets. I wasn't worried about the loss of clearance, as I don't climb all over rocks anymore, and even when I did, it wouldn't have been an issue.

And of course, if ya make it yourself or get a friend to, it's almost always cheaper. I guess I just assumed you didn't know you could get them......duh.
