Most durable 4.56 gears for Chrysler 8.25?

Hi. Newbie to the forum here. I'm looking for replacement gears for a 95 XJ with 4.56 gears. We put some in a few years back from Yukon (although I think it was a subsidiary of them) but with the use we give them they're starting to hum pretty loud and we'd like to put some better quality ones in. Any sound advice about durable gears built for longevity would be greatly appreciated. This is obviously not a daily driver but it does see its share of highway driving and some towing now and again locally.

Thanks in advance!

i've only used yukons. the only time i've gotten them to sing on me was when i used my old XJ as a media truck for the KOH east coast qualifier and beat the hell out of it all day on less than a quart of fluid in my 44. pretty sure the axle is in someone else's XJ somewhere running just fine... just noisy.

Sure its not the just bearings humming ?

Ok, let me put this another way: If you were buying new 4.56 gears for your XJ 8.25 Chrysler read end which brand of gears would you purchase for strength, reliability and durability?

there's a thread going on about this on naxja right now. read this http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1108203

I think the gist is that gears are all pretty much the same. so buy the cheapest ones possible. hit up RWKHaussupply and see what he has to say

Spicer is factory that's what I would go with but they don't make gears for the 8.25.... I went with superior gears but I wish I had just gone with motive and saved some $

I sold a few Superior sets, installed a few as well. Great gears...but WAY over priced. They priced themselves right out of the market.

Ok, thanks. I think I've heard what I need to hear...appreciate the help.

Precision is great also. Get them cryod and run quality fluids and a strong cover. Don't forget grade 8 carrier bolts.

X2^^^^^^ chyro'd gears is the way to go , apparently up to 30% stronger. I went cheap and got 5:13 G2 gears then chyro'd em . Been a ruff year of smashing with no issues !!

I read that it depends on how the chryo is done. it has to be done in liquid. and even then I've seen poor results. a guy in my area shattered a brand new d30 RP after it got chryo'd

for anyone considering it, make sure you do some heavy reading before sending your gears off to be chryo treated

xj101 01-20-2014 01:52 PM

Yah take ur time , mine were done over a 4 day process . And a week long Break in period after setup. But also Ina hp44 not a d30 soo could be different
