Manual Transmission Extended Idle Setup?
Has anyone successfully wired up an extended idle switch on a manual transmission XJ? I've been searching for a definitive answer on this for a few days now and have come up with little info. I know it works on an automatic XJ by grounding an ECU pin, but evidently it has no effect on a 5 speed XJ PCM since the ECU looks for the transmission to be in park or neutral - which is impossible without a TCU and NSS according to others.
Is there a way to trick the PCM into completing the circuit on a 5 speed?

not only for wheeling, but to bump up my idle when I have a lot of electrical junk running - like when it's a monsoon outside and I have the rear defroster, fan on full blast, both wipers, headlights, foglights, and radio. My volts drop WAY down at stoplights unless I bring up the idle manually - kind of hard to do with a clutch setup.

and yes I've thought about a hand throttle but don't like the idea of it being able to be bumped by my passenger

a high amp GC alternator is in the "build plans" list already. I want this in addition to that. I have a 110 in there already another 26 amps won't make that much of an impact under full load.

Sounds like you need a better alternator, my voltage will dip when I turn on things but it never runs lower than 12v for more than a few seconds.
Ive been looking at doing a hand throttle and you can get a lockable hand control to set idle at 1500 to help start and use your foot when your moving.

mm yea. Alternator is brand new about 10 months ago with new cables and terminals. 110amp model. Trying not to change it until i pick up a GC one or I kill this one with mud like the last.
Hand throttle is on my list for that reason, but wasn't planning on it quite yet.
Enough about my alternator - No one has a solution to the extended idle switching though???

That's what a Unimog uses; a hand throttle. Worked great - especially for warming the truck up, but obviously intended for the PTO. Just make it a point to tell your passengers, "DON'T TOUCH!"

It's attached my my shift lever so they better not be touching that to begin with
