low pinion to high pinion dana 30 swap questions

ok so i got an 01xj, 4.5 rc lift and have an sye. problem is i get bad vibes from the front due to incorrect angle. cant do a whole lot or i loose my castor, but vibes driving me nuts. sooo I am thinking of putting a hp dana 30 in the front. i know it isnt the best axle.. but im only running 31s, and wheel on weekends. nothing too hardcore.

that being said, is this swap as easy as its made out? go to a yard pull a hp dana 30, and put it in? and what year would work best with an 01 np 231 transfer case with the vaccum acutated 4x4? will this even make enough difference to get correct pinion angle?

i have done some quick research and seem that some are not vacuum actuated? and something about i would have to use 01 unit bearings and 01 rotors.. which id like to. cause all thats new. also 2 piece axles and u joints? some u joints were weaker? but.. theres so much conflicting info on the web im kinda lost.

sorry for the all the questions, just looking for difinitive answers.

Any 91+ axle is a direct swap.
Simply swap your unit bearing hubs and rotors.

And your shafts too....

^What he said but you might want to look for a 95 up with bigger u-joints and keep the shafts for spares.

X2 on the larger u-joints and those yrs.

You may very well need Adj U/LCA's also to set the pinion angle properly and center in wheel well. Its a good idea with a 4 1/2" lift anyway and NOT RC buy a better quality control arms.

I'm only at about 3.5", but I'm getting a few vibes up front too. Are there other ways to adjust pinion angle up front? Can't exactly shim the coils . . . or, can you?

i already have adjustable upper and lower control arms... and they are rc arms, and not bad quality... lifts been on since april, and i have had zero complaints other than the fact i get vibes up front. and the tre that came with there adjustable trac bar was junk. i bought a moog and havent had any issues.

my pinion angle is adjusted as far as i can without sacrificing castor angle. its either cut and and reclock the knuckles on my current, dana 30... or go hp dana 30...

Go high pinion. You get a strength advantage and it would be cheaper than having the knuckles relocated.

Once you get the swap done the problem "Should" go away. At the least you will have a better differential up front and when you re-gear now you won't have to buy them again as you can't swap LPD30 with a HPD30 gears.
