Looking at the iron rock 4" have ??'s
I was wondering if i really needed a sye and cv drive shaft.
This is my dd and will be trailed some. maybe a few times a year. Some mudding but no rock crawling. I want to do the right thing and not skimp out. Money is an issue but doing right the first time is what i live by.lol.
I have the 232 t/c btw.

at 4" you can get away with a tcase drop but a SYE would be the best way to go. i noticed you mentioned that you had the "232" transfer case, which doesnt exist in a cherokee. you either have a 242 or a 231, with the the hack n tap the only option for the 242 and a full one for the 231.

If you want to do the right thing, and not skimp out get the sye and driveshaft. You COULD get a TC drop kit, but there's a chance you'd still get vibrations. You said it yourself, do it right the first time!

sorry for all the dumb ?'s,but i do appreciate. thankyou.

Not dumb questions at all. I'm really not sure about the TC drop kit, because mine was built into my long arm cross member. Send an e-mail over to IRO, they'd be glad to answer any questions. Great customer service! I believe the e-mail is contactus@ironrockoffroad.com. Tell them what all you need, and they'll provide you with a quote for everything.

I just got off the phone with jay @ IRO. He said that I probably not need the sye with my application and that every t/c is different. He said I might find that i need one. If that happens i'll get one. But with my jeep being used mostly as a dd and to much off road i will just go with out it for now.
Thanks for the help guys.
Jay.

Yea, that's the main problem. Some people need them, some don't. However, from what i've heard anytime you go over about 3" lift with 97+ Cherokees most of the time SYE's are needed. Good idea to just get it. If you have any more questions, let me know. IRO usually has some sort of special going on too. I got 10% off my entire order from a code in a magazine (i forget which one) search around, or ask them.

a full complete SYE kit. like it comes with a new output shaft, tail housing, and everything needed to accommodate the new CV shaft. hack n taps are just trimmed, "hacked" and tapped 242 output shafts with a driveshaft flange bolted on to fit a CV drive shaft. complete SYE's are better than hack n taps

props for going with IRO, they are great to deal with.
i would try it without first, but chances are you'll get some vibes. don't do a tc drop, they're just band aids; do a sye or hack n tap. if you can risk going without a car for a couple days, get a front ds from the junkyard and see if it's long enough. if it is, you just saved yourself $300. i just did and it works great. i have about 3.5" in the rear and there's still about an 1.5" of slip left in the ds.
