Default Longer shocks in the front or rear help

Got a 96 and recently got a set of 12" stroke single bypasses with reservoir from another project. I dont want to sell them and thought about putting them on my xj. Now the real question is... do I put them on the front or the rear? I know welding and fabrication will be part of the build and eventually I would like to get another pair for the xj to complete the job!

12" of travel will be best used in front
