long arm upgrade for a 3 inch lift?

I have been searching for an answer on this, apparently in all the wrong places. I am planning to install 3" lift on my xj. Are there any long arm (or medium arm) upgrades available for stock height or 3 inch lifts on the xj?

I haven't seen anything below 4 1/2" as anything but a shortarm kit, I hear the frame rail gets in the way. 4 1/2" and above there are longarm kits.

Bopeep is the only one I've seen on here with long arm on 3 inch. And she's running 35s

I have been interested in this also. From what I gather the hard part isn't getting long arms under a 3" lift. The hard part is getting long enough upper adjustments to set your caster properly. I'm not sure if the 3-link setups are much better.
In theory, as long as you can get caster set you could run long arms on stock height.

correct me if this is false information.

side note: longer brake lines so you don't end up using them as limiting straps is a very good idea with any LA kit.

You just have to run straight arms. Any of the high clearance bent lower arms will hit the frame.
I can't see where the upper adjustment would be a problem. From 4.5-3" is only minimally different. If anything it would gain you more castor, and you woulnt need as steep a pinion angle at that height anyway.

That makes sense. Either way, I am probably gonna go with an RC 6.5" LA lift anyways, but I thought this might be a good topic of discussion. No I just need to get my taxes done so I can start my build lol.

Look into what full traction suspension did with their 3.5" long arm kit. http://full-traction.com/detail.php?...CTID=510&NOTES=

You can get adjustable 'mid length' arms. I was looking at some til i changed my mind.

That is very nice. Talk about LOWCOG with Big Flex. But for the price, I think I would rather get a taller lift for the added clearance. I am still researching before I buy though, as well as making sure my cherokee is running as good as possible before I dump my tax refund into building it up. :D

I thought about trying that, but then decided against it as well, just in case I decide to go taller in the future. If I am gonna change the LCAs, I am gonna do it once, not twice.

I got a pro comp 3" lift it came with new LSA's

BurninBridges Feb 22, 2012 01:13 PM

If I do a 3" lift, I will probably just get new LSAs, and keep the mounts in the stock location. i dont wanna put a mounting crossmember on, then have to move it to another location if i decide to go taller with longer control arms. This thread is helping me make the decision to just go all the way with a RC 6.5" LA kit.

Haha i'm with you on the price. I was saying possibly give them a call and see if they would sell you just the arms and crossmember. I've heard great things about that company.

I am willing to bet it would be pricey for even the arms and crossmembers. I dont think I would want to put those nice parts on a 3" junk-yard lift. That being said, if I decide on a 3" lift, I am gonna use junk-yard parts. If I go 6.5", I am gonna go with RC LA. It all depends on what my tax refund is lol.

if you bumpstop as much as the taller lifts then you shouldnt have an issue with clearance.

but like said you have to make sure there is enough adjustment to dial in your caster.
