Default Long arm cross member help

I've got a set of RC longarms I'm going to install but I didn't realize my sliders are in the way of drilling the holes for the upper plates any ideas of how I should do that. I don't know if the picture helps?

Drill a hole through the slider and put an extension on the bit. Or cut that part out of the slider and reweld it on once you have your holes drilled.

Can't see the picture so, shooting in the dark, but I use a step bit and compact right angle air drill.
