is the powertrax technically a limited slip? I can't stress enough how badly an LSD sucks in the rocks. it might as well be an open diff

No the powertrax no-slip is a lunchbox locker, it just uses some sort of clutch to engage/disengage the teeth. It is just supposed to be a smooth engaging lunchbox.

It doesn't end EVER just like race cars you always want to go faster and it all depends on how much money you want to spend. This Jeep thing is no different none!
I had the ARB's that my son wanted so I gave them to him he could not afford them at the time. He went with what I told him the Detroit Lockers IMHO the best in class and will hold up plus parts are available when it's time to repair. They are a good company to work with and I had used their products on and off for many years in everything I didn't have a full spool in.
I bought the ARB's cheap and he wanted them and he now has them installed, I have no doubt that I will be well pleased with the Detroit's after having them before.
It boils down to what do you Need and what you just Want

Id go detroit if ya have the coin and lokka if ya dont.
Ive ran an aussie (lokka) in my rear for a cpl years now. Once you get used to it you dont even know its there. Except that an otherwise stock drive train will get sideways on dry pavement with 35"s. Lol
Only i could see the front locker getting annoying is in parking lots or other tight places if its a dd.

Ask yourself why Jeep (and others) have the choice to put a factory posi in only one end it's always in the rear.
As far as drive-ablity. I have an Aussie and Power Trax No Slip. While both lock when they should the Aussie bangs and clicks and pops and can be felt through the steering wheel even when in 2WD. The No Slip is completely silent.

Anyway, for myself I feel buyers remorse on getting the Aussie. If I had to do it again I'd wait until I saved more money and bought another No Slip. At first I said, I don't care if it makes noise, and keep in mind I've removed the headliner and that doesn't bother me, but after a few weeks the banging and popping from the front when just trying to make a U-turn on the street is unsettling. They say it gets quieter after a while but I've had mine about a year and I'm still waiting. I'm almost to the point of putting the open diff back in.

They serve the same purpose but the locker is better at its job with the downside of being more harsh. Thanks for the info. Im ok with noise but I don't want my Jeep to sound like its about to break. Lots of mixed reviews. I'm still leaning towards a no slip in the front until I can afford F/R selectables.

Its a proven fact that auto lockers make noise so if yours don't they are not working. Are you using thicker oil or diff covers or something to mute the noise?
Someone could get used to this noise, but I don't think I would ever get so used to it I didn't hear it though.
