Locker install, what's my gear ratio?
I have a 1991 Jeep Cherokee Limited. How do I know if I've got a tow package or not so I can figure out my gear ratio?

So it's been a while but I'm back to this thread. I found out that the tag is missing from my rear diff but I found the stamp on the diff cover. It is 42968 289-7 Rev L 2-24-87. I have searching like crazy online but to no avail. I keep getting pointed in the wrong direction.

Do you have and Auto or manual trans? I think if its a manual the gears will be 3.07
If auto it will be 3.55. and if its a auto with a tow pack 3.73..If you have a oem auxiliary trans cooler..that might be a sign it has a tow pack.

It's an automatic. I don't think it has the tow package because it had a U-haul tow hitch installed which I removed.

99% chance you have 3.55
but the only way to know exactly is to remove the cover and read the stampings on the edge of the ring gear. it will have the tooth count, then divide the larger number by the smaller number and you will have the correct ratio.

you can also jack it up and rotate tires to see exactly how many shaft rotations you get. front diff tag is def easier. but yea, 99% chance it 3.55
