Locker front or rear?
Ok so I am being offered a D30 or a c 8.25 27 spline lunchbox locker,
interesting part is those just happen to be the axles I have... SO, I can have either or, they are FREE, but I can not have both... both need spring kits but otherwise are in like new condition
So, which one should I take?
Also I live in Missouri, we do not get a lot of snow but when we do it can be pretty brutal
I really don't plan to keep the c 8.25, plan on putting in a Ford 8.8 at some point, maybe even on with a limited slip
locker front and limited in the rear would be a great combo for a street / trail / daily driver I think

the front makes sense and is an obvious better option for crawling
but I hate fighting it the whole time. I run tight trails and end up driving around in 2wd anyway so I don't have to make 4pt turns
if I could only pick one, it's the rear for me

if only one locker i would do the rear,my last jeep was a cj-7 w/ a detroit locker in the rear & a arb in front. i ran lots of black & red trails ,i could do 90% of the stuff w/ the front open, only locking the front for the most difficult things then unlocking soon as i was thru it. when the front was locked its solid as a spool & very hard to steer. but w/ it locked it was total 4 wheel traction & sometimes really made the difference whether i made it or winched it. my current xj is open front & rear , i dont do any hardcore wheeling anymore , but i will probably go ahead & lock the rear anyway just for the extra traction for whatever wheeling i may do.

seriously? this topic has been beaten to death, just read the millions of threads already on this exact topic.
besides, front should be your obvious choice. why get a locker for an axle you arent even going to keep?

Weld the rear, and install a locker up front. I'm a little interested as to why you have over 2,000 posts and are asking this question. Good luck!!

lock the rear with 29 spine axles, put a detroit locker or truetrac up front. This way it is a plenty strong setup, that is great when you do get that brutal snow

In my experience the front locker out performs the rear given an either or situation for a daily driver or trail truck.
However in a trail only rig the rear works welded just fine.

First off the 8.25 is not the weak link. The d30 is. If you run 35's and up hard on the skinny pedal, both are weak.

I have no current plans to go above 33s

to the op, if i was in your situation. i would pick the front. you dont plan to keep the 8.25, so why bother locking it.
