Can somebody give me a detailed walk through ofor how to wire lights to turn on when I cut my headlights on?
I recently got upgraded headlights with LED strips around the perimeter of the lights and I don't know how to wire them to turn on with the headlight bulbs. Thanks. |
The led strips have different wiring harness than the headlight itself?
|
Well the headlights just plug in. The headlights function like stock headlights, just upgraded bulbs and a different look. But they have LED strips thathe look kind of like parentheses on the edges of the headlight. Those need additional wiring. Would have been nice if they had incorporated that in, but they didnt. There's just a positive and negative wire hanging out of either side of the headlights.

Do you know what brand and part number they are?

ModifyStreet H6014/H6052/H6054 chrome crystal square projection headlights. That's the best I can do.

If you want them on everytime your headlights are on, then i would connect the positive wire to the positive wire to the headlight. Obviously ground to the closest ground. A voltage tester will tell you which one the power wire is and i would use splice connectors with clip lids...
If you want the option to have them on at different times, then you need to wire them to a switch in the cab... |
So the way the stock lights are wired, is there a way to splice a hot wire into that existing harness? Because it uses the same harness just a different bulb and housing.
|
Yes. There should be a "hot" wire that gets voltage when you turn the lights on... you want to splice the red of the led onto that...

I use these... im sure some one on here will say its not 100% professional... but whatever....

Thanks guys. And in my opinion, in regards to modifying an xj, 100% professional is the wrong way to go. You need a little bit of rigging every now and then.
