Default Lifting XJ. Plow Issues?

Ok so I'm preparing myself now. I am looking to lift my XJ in the next few months. I also plow in the winter with my XJ. I have decided on a 3" Rough Country lift with the full leaf pack since that is easier to install and I don't need a SYE and longer drive shaft. Am I going to have any issues with plowing? Will I have to modify anything on the plow or the cross members? It's a Western Uni-Mount plow and a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I am also looking at new tires too along with my lift. I'm thinking 31's or 33's. I'd love 33's but I don't know if I want to trim anything yet. I also still want wheel articulation also. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

I really wouldn't use an XJ to plow, its very rough on the unibody. If this is a Jeep you want to keep, find something else to put the plow on.

I've been plowing since 2001 and I have not had any problems with it. I will probably be putting frame stiffeners on before the winter though

Bump. Does anyone have an answer to my question? I know plowing isn't the best idea but I'm going to do it anyway. Will lifting my XJ affect how I plow

Gonna need frame stiffeners that's for sure.

It depends how rough you are.

Depends on how much adjustment is left in your unimount bracket. If you can lower it enough to get the a frame level then you are good to go as is. If not then you will need to build or have a plow shop build you a lowering bracket for the plow mount.

Honestly, for light plowing the XJ is plenty strong, it's gonna be fine. But if you do it for multiple people, like for a job, definitely gonna end up bad.

I would upgrade the steering to the V8 ZJ conversion.

For 31s on a 3" lift when the plow is up the tires might catch the corners of the fender. Might want to look into some small coil spacers or HD coils depending on how heavy your plow setup is

How exactly would you adjust the unimount bracket. I can't take the bracket off of the Jeep because of the rust and stuff. Will the angle of the lower plow crossmember be bad for the plow? I can get a longer chain so I can keep the plow on the ground

I don't know about the lift part but I do know an old guy that has plowed with his XJ for more than 20 years. he built his own mounts but I have never looked at them. his front suspension is way tired though. He keeps it on there all winter and does several businesses and driveways when it snows. If it were me I would mix and match my lift or order from a company that gives you the option for the heavier spring rate coils

Yeah it's not great for the plow, it takes forces that are meant to be straight in line and puts them at an angle.

It will also keep you from having the plow flat on the ground when you have it angled to one side or another which will greatly increase the amount of time you need to do a job as you can only use part of the plow's width effectively.
