I have a 99 xj and it had a 2inch Rubicon Express lift when i bought it. I want to know what the cheapest route and then a not so cheap/quality route i can go to fit 35s. Please help me out if you can. Something like this xj.

Are you aware of all the extras that are required to run a set of 35" tires not including the cheap part the lift? Like an SYE, new gears/Lockers, driveshaft, steering, shocks and a bunch of others.

In no way is it CHEAP!

Stock suspension on 35's here (cheap route) https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f59/st...on-35s-211668/
But as Fred suggests, "35's" and "cheap" don't usually go together, and when you throw the word "quality" in, it is nearly impossible.

all you gotta do is cut off a bunch of metal lol. Im sitting at 3.5'' on 35s and only rub at full articulation(i did just push my axle forward to help this a lil) yes being undergeared kinda sucks, but in all reality I can do 70 on the freeway no problem and its still pretty peppy.

" its still pretty peppy"

Yes I bet it is with 35" tires and 3.55 gears, the trans has to overheat badly and up/down shift constantly on level ground.

I can only guess how long it takes to get to that speed I know how badly mine sucked with just 33's and 3.55's in it. Tell this fellow the truth about all the issues that really need to be addressed for this to happen "correctly" not Half Azzed that might get him hurt.

Lift/tire question.

my jeep sits nicely at 210 no issue but I do have a tranny cooler to put on whenever I get to it. doesn't take much to get to 70(not exactly sure if it's actually 70 as I'm off 5mph at 35) now hills do suck. I but third gear at like 3500 will keep me at 65 going all the way up. I know it needs to be geared but that will happen when I axle swap as I'm not paying for that twice. also wondering how running 35s with stock gears can get you hurt?

Never said anything about the gears getting him hurt that will only make it a slug. It is doing all the rest properly or trying to take shortcuts is where people get in trouble.

Hey man why do you need a differential swap?

sandblaster87 Dec 7, 2015 02:07 PM

I ran 35s on 3.55 for over a year with zero problems? Drove on the freeway doing 75mph nicely, & it didn't take forever to get up to speed either..Sure it wasn't a race car, but its a damn jeep, drove just fine, I have a trans temp gauge never over heated...so, sorry yours was such a turd on 33s, fred, & please stop bragging how you have $5k worth of rustys crap on your jeep, no buddy cares..

you know because I'm not gonna run tiny tires forever. 37s are coming by Feb, probably run them on stock gears till I can get tons under it. plus I like to beat the **** out of it and d30s don't like that. and still I see no case that can cause someone to get hurt.

Y'all are crazy. Fred you did indeed say "Tell this fellow the truth about all the issues that really need to be addressed for this to happen "correctly" not Half Azzed that might get him hurt."...however I'm guessing your comment was taken out of context, but probably because a bad choice of wording. You are not entirely incorrect, however.

I also ran 35's on 3.55 gearing for more than a year. It sucked. It was a dog, even though I could get up to those speeds, it worked the engine and trans HARD. It was also a pig with fuel. So, it was a pig-dog, LOL

My intention was to put the 35's on, and do the gears right after, but real life intervened and I was stuck with what I had. I learned from that mistake. The next time I do a mod like this my ducks will be in a row BEFORE I jump in to bigger tires. Those of you racing Scions, and claiming it wasn't that bad, are fooling yourselves. You are working your engine and trans harder, and causing premature wear on your drivetrain, whether you care to admit that or not. Maybe it doesn't matter to you. Fine. But don't come here and preach that it's perfectly fine, it isn't.

You gotta pay to play. Especially if you want to do it the right way.

I care. Fred is just trying to tell the guy who started this thread that maybe he should consider doing the job right. You don't build an off road, trail eating, rock crawling Cherokee for pennies. Most of the people on CF can also exchange ideas and information in a civil manner. I've been on CF for five years now and I don't find your comment to Fred helpful to anyone but maybe yourself.
