Default Lift help?

So eventually I'm going to get myself an xj but in the meantime I've been trying to figure out what to do for my lift, I was orginally going to get a rubicon express 5.5in with a 1.5 in coil spacer but that made me wonder what would I haft to add to the leafs, if I did do the spacer and lift combo, also is this realiable off-road? Or would I be better off buying a 7.5-8 in lift

Oh god you have so much to learn...

What size tires so you want to run? What do you want to use it for? How much money are you willing to dump into it?

And you absolutely cannot add spacers on top of a 5.5" short arm lift.

What exactly are your plans for the Jeep? You may not even need an 8" lift.

Well I wanted to run 35s and I was going to get the long arm instead of the short arm, and I'm going to be doing moderate trails nothing too crazy but also didn't want to trailer it, so I would be using it on the street too

Once you buy the XJ and get everything in good working order then you save about $5-6K to do what you want to do. You might get by with $1-1.5K less but I wouldn't bet on it if done properly.

From my understanding a 8 inch lift is going to require steering, brake line, and drive line work. If your only doing moderate trails you dont need a crazy lift. I run a 2 inch lift and 235 BFG A/t's and i do just fine

Cut out fender flares and the right bump stops you can run 35s at 5.5 to 6 inches of lift.If you want to see lift vs tire size http://www.myjeepxj.com/cherokee-lift-kits The reason the lift companies say whatever size tires to whatever size lift is because they don't test them with the stock fender flares,When you run cut out flares or just cut the fender wells open gives you more room for bigger tires with out lifting higher.

The higher you lift the more money and parts you will have to put in it. For what you are going to do, it sounds like a simple 3.5 inch Rubicon express lift and some 31s would do you just fine if that's the brand you're wanting to go with. I am running a 4 inch re lift on 32s and I do moderate wheeling as well as daily driving. Do your research and research and research. When you're done doing research, do some more. These topics have been covered many many times for every brand and size lift on every size tire. If you are unsure, you can always ask on here. That's what were here for. Well most of us

I currently have 6" lift on 35s with cut fenders. I would love to drop it down to about 4.5-5" because it would preform better. The less lift the better everything will work.

I'm gonna be doing 35s on 4 1/2 with the x-max flares from notch customs.

Solid choice. I think 3" on 33s and 4.5" on 35s are much better setups than the more popular 4.5"/33s and 6"/35s.
