Default liberty or zj discs?

whats up guys planning on doin the swap this weekend but i found a kj with an 8.25 rear end and a grand with a dana. saw you can use both but need to grind out the grands to fit. im assuming the grand would have better brakes so my question is should i go with the liberty for the direct bolt in or the grand for the strength or is there even that much of a difference between the two..?

Im getting ready to swap mine this weekend. I have the rears from a zj. Just grinding the inside of the bracket wont hurt the strength any. Unless you really remove alot of material.

No difference in strength from the zj to the liberty. Liberty, being newer, might even be better, caliper wise. And the liberty bolts right to it if you have the 8.25 rear end. I would snag them off the liberty if it were me.

I'm pretty sure that you have to bore the backing plate on libertys too. I think they have smaller shafts.

you have to grind down the ZJ disks.

the libertys SHOULD be direct bolt in to the 8.25

I haven't heard anything about grinding the zj discs. Only opening up the center of the caliper bracket.

I guess you're right. There's a write-up for zj's and liberty's in the write-up section. But I'm guessing the jy or wherever you get your parts the liberty parts will probably be quite a bit more.

I went to pull-a-part for my zj rear discs. Less than $50 for calipers rotors bracket and all.

you guys all seem to have the best junkyards around. last time I went they wanted $35 for a steering wheel that I would pull off. You guys are getting calipers, brackets, backing plates, etc. all for $50????
