led lightbar wiring ideas
Just put a 42" led light bar on the roof rack. Anyone have any slick ideas for running the wiring to a switch on the dash. I'm into clean looking stuff, no drilling holes into the roof ideas.
picture of rack before i powder coated it and added the front supports.
I also pulled the plastic runners from the stock racks off too. Those aren't there anymore.

Not at all. Watch a YouTube video on how windshields are installed. They use a eurethane caulking and the black seal you see is just molding for the windshield. It has a perfect gap for wires if u lift the lip of the molding up. Probably like half inch or more. Check out the install though if you're worried. After you see how they are installed and held in place you won't be worried.

And when you get to the base of the windshield, there's a gap right where the fender stops that will fit the wires. That will lead to the engine bay so you can hook everything up

Follow the link and go to post #37. This shows how I ran the wires for my light bar. I thought about using the windshield seam but didn't like the wire coming out at the bottom. This is just another option. Good luck and have fun.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have. How many amps does the 42 inch led light bar draw? Maybe you could use smaller gauge wires than I did.

Mines wired down the passenger windshield weather stripping, into the fender, drilled a hole to pop it into the engine bay, then across the wiring loom, into the same grommet that the main harness enters the cab and from there you can mount the switch wherever your heart desires(or wherever the amount of wire left over you have) mine switch is hidden behind my 4wd shifter.

Honestly the cleanest roof wiring I've ever seen has involved going directly through the roof with a grommet and some silicon. That's how it's done on cop cars and other emergency vehicles. There's also marine grade plugs that you could use, but would also involve drilling through the roof.
I ran my wires down the weather stripping in my door and now a couple years later I'm wishing I didn't.
