LED headlight wiring issue, no low beam
Hi,
I searched and didn't find this covered before, so forgive me if I missed it. I installed some cheap LED headlights last night. I know, I know. They were a similar price to stock replacement so I figured I'd take a chance. They had good reviews. They have a standard h4 connector. Of course, I didn't check it until I had everything back together or I would have played around with it. I'm only getting high beams when either low or high is selected. Both sides worked correctly before, and the other side still does (didn't get to that side yet). I figured that the stock socket pin order must be different (non h4). It would kind of make sense to me if the stock ground was going to the high beam LED prong, as high beam on the picture on the instructions shows everything lit up. You know, so the thing would be internally wired so that I'd experience only high beams if I had the ground wrong. But that's not what my manual appeared to show when I checked. Maybe I have it backwards, I'll play with it tonight. I just wanted to see if anyone ever had this issue.
Thanks,
Jesse

some budget priced led replacements only have 1 beam and do not switch you may want to check to see if it says low/high beam in the listing I kno some of the cheap HID kits did this too

This kit definitely is SUPPOSED to have both high and low. I'm pretty sure it is just a simple wiring switch. Otherwise there is an internal problem in the unit.

Yup, I had (and have on the passenger side, didn't disconnect yet) high and low working prior. Only have about 50 miles behind the wheel of on this xj, just got it. I'm trying to fix all of the issues and do all the maintenance that I can't verify was done.
Seems I'm not alone:

Looks like my factory fog lights are the likely culprit. The circuit that stops you from running with high beams AND fogs on apparently puts a slight signal into the high beam circuit. Normally it does nothing, but LEDs begin so efficient use that to power the high beams all the time.
Next time I get some wrenching time I'll put the fog light relay/fuse and see if it corrects my issue. I could live without fog lights until I rewire that circuit. They aren't aimed well anyway.

If you want to fix it for cheap get your money back on those chicom lights. Then get a cheap H4 harness and two 6054 ExtraVision bulbs, You won't believe the difference and your vehicle won't be a hazard to oncoming drivers.

I ordered a set of Trucklite knockoffs and they came with a sheet explaining that the wiring may be a little different and provided two extra harnesses to fix the issue

it may he as simple as pulling the pins from.the connectors and switching them around.

These were the ones
Again, I don't think there is anything wrong with these, they are nice and bright, and cheap enough to take a risk on. I think you will run into a problem if you have factory fog light wiring, which puts a low level signal into the high beam circuit, enough to power LED's, but not halogens.

I suspect you are right on the pin out for the plug.
I have LED headlights on my '00 XJ but now I wonder if I will have the same problem as you when I put them on my '93.
