You got cheap *** headlights.
Also they are not "cree brand"
Cree is just a style of led bulb design.

You are saying they turn on without turning on the light switch? If you have a headlight delay module. You can try pulling that out. It causes problems with HIDs so maybe it might help. IMO nothing beats a good HID retrofit.

I have a set from Seward Offroad (had a less than stellar experience with the company, but that's neither here nor there) but from what I've heard, you need a relay harness. Not sure what amperage.

LED's don't have as much resistance as your original halogen lights. This is a common occurrence with LED's wired to a halogen system. Essentially, the halogen bulbs need more push to heat the coil which produces light. The little bit of voltage that leaks can't make the halogen bulb produce light (because of the higher resistance) while your jeep is on but it's enough to barely light an LED (because of it's lower resistance). You need to add a relay to cut the supply off all together until you hit the switch which activates the relay and provides a path for current to flow again.

Do you mean to say that Cree is a manufacture of diodes, but it is likely that the headlights he bought are not genuine Cree?

Cree is definitely a brand - probably more well known for diodes than Philips or Osram to be honest.

Isolate the headlights with a relay harness.........standard procedure with any XJ/MJ.

Would any of you be able to link us to a suitable harness?

I've read about this happening to lots of people with those headlights.
