Bronco II tire carrier ideas?
A family member of mine rolled his Bronco II.
It has the factory tire carrier.
There is plenty of threads about installing them but I can't find one that still has pics.
Plus everthing I've come across suggests installing it to the body itself.
I'm going to build a simple rear bumper like so:
Won't be curved inwards on the ends but same material will be used.
I would like to attatch the carrier to the bumper itself....
Has anyone done something similar with one or have some ideas/input?

Honestly that tire carrier is crap i have seen them break with a stock size spare on it.If your gonna build a rear bumper build a true tire carrier one that uses a car spindle for the mount so it will handle the weight and abuse its gonna get.And tie the bumper in fully with the nut strips not just the 8 bumper bolts.

The work involved to make that carrier work in a bumper mount isn't worth it IMHO. I would suggest using the wheel mounting flange, and latch mechanism. Fab the rest. Use the hinge shown in this thread: http://forum.expeditionportal.com/th...es-again/page5. I'm in process of building my rear bumper. I have a hinge fabbed up like the one in the link. Cheap too. Maybe $20 into the hinge. Absolutely bullet proof. For a latch I pulled one off of a Pathfinder. I've got my materials gathered, it's just a matter of getting time to fab it up.
