Leaf spring dilemma
I'm sitting here arguing with myself and a bit ticked off at what needs to be done. Well ... "need" is a bit of an exaggeration, but we gals tend to do that. Anyway ...
I'm still running about 7" lift with 33s and I really want to be at 5.5" (long story). My current leafs are 6.5" with 1" shackles. I got new RE 4.5" leafs, (not yet installed) but now I remember that RE leafs run higher than their advertised height. So it looks like I might still be too tall even though the XJ is pretty heavy & loaded in the rear interior.
How do I get myself out of this mess? I really want to be no higher than 5.5". The XJ feels really unstable and was just that on my last trip on the rocks. I'm willing to part with the RE leafs ... Any suggestions?

if your willing to part with your springs maybe go for a 3 inch leaf pack and a 2 in lift shackle and some shackle re-locators brackets. that's what i have. it allows me to adjust my spring load and total droop of my rear axle depending on position. more angle makes for a softer ride and better traction in situations ware your axle is drooping as it takes more droop to get the spring completely unloaded. which for rocks would be a good thing i imagine.
more you load the spring with shackle angle the more it lowers the rear end. so i dunno some food for thought. i don't play on rocks much but when i do i keep traction pretty good.
wanna post up a pic of your rig and rear set up.

Just seems to me that 3.5" packs won't have that much flex when it matters. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I can post pics shortly (but there's plenty pics of here on this forum already). I do have relocation brackets and my shackles are Iron Man 1" adjustable, but not by much. I think they are set at the lowest which is 1".

i flex a good bit. im cut out on 35's
in this pic my axles are twisted opposite directions. the terrain is a bit more brutal than it looks there.
i could be wrong but i read some ware lower lift leaf back travel better with long shackles to make up the lift .
can any one chime in on that. i could be very wrong.

The 4.5" springs will settle down Ina few months just install em. They have the higher spring rate for the weight of our extras. Leafs do eventually settle. Do a google search for RE leaf settling etc

I know they settle ... eventually. But I'm concerned about the Jeep having a backward or forward rake while I'm waiting for them to "settle". The pack on there now (not RE) hasn't settled - I'm tired of waiting.

If you already have the 4.5 leafs I would just run them. That combo should be pretty close to your desired ride height. Better to be a tad high than to be on the low side IMO

with relocation brackets and a properly setup shackle angle you can make pretty much any leaf spring flex if flex is really what you are worried about.
this is at about 4.5" of lift with extended shackles and relocation brackets, i dont remember what leaves i was running at the time.
