Leaf Spring Axle Shims
Hey guys. I need some help.
I just installed a Rough Country 4.5 in X-series lift kit. Yes, I know, RC, I'm now going to get a bunch of s**t, but I like it.
I just need some help trying to figure out what degree leaf spring shims to get. They are full spring packs, not, AAL. I've read people with 4.5 in going with 4*, but I want to measure and be positive before I order them.
I have an angle locator and am willing to do what I need to find the ones I need. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
P.S. - These are the shims I will get if I can't figure it out.

There's a diagram I can't post from my phone (I can, but its late and I'm lazy) that shows what I'm about to describe. If you Google pinion angle I'm sure you'll find it.
If you do NOT have an SYE, your pinion, and output shaft of the tcase should be parallel. You should hopefully not need any shims to achieve this, but if you're running an extended shackle I hear it can happen. If you have issues with driveline vibrations, you need to consider an sye as a serious investment. A tcase drop should not be considered as a long term solution, though it will work for the time being.
If you do have an SYE, then you want the difference between the angle of your driveshaft, and your pinion to be about 2-3° (pretty much in-line, but just a hair under for axle-wrap).

Great info Jerry!!! I am running a 4.5" RE lift with a 3/4" TC drop and 6 degree shims. No vibration but I am going to check the difference now with the new info.

Oh yeah, I do have an SYE. I know where it needs to be, but I don't know how to measure to find what degree shims I need.
