:mad:iam currently running on an yellow top optima battery and im running 1 kicker L7 and 4 6x9's 200 watt each with a small amp it says 110.4 idk what that means but it works pretty good my concern is that this is what happens when i turn on my MY STEREO & lights my battery gauge goes from 14 to 9 volts When the music starts Attachment 47520

ohh i almost forgot and its a brand new battery 2 weeks old to be exact

Possible bad headlight switch. My 87 also had a ignition switch that made the voltage act funny but it was fried.

Ohh ok i hope thats what it is cuz i still got a lot more to intall on it so i need power how bout a bigger output alternator would that work without damaging anything ??

I have heard different people say opposing things, some guys can go up an alternator and nothing catastrophic happens to their harness or switches. Others argue that harness' and switches are rated to take so many amps (which is true). I thought about doing it myself but decided against it since I was frying things with the stock alternator.

i guess ill have to look for something else that helps me maintain my power thanks though really appreciate the heads up

i would think that your current alternator is no good. it should not drop that low unless its really overworked. and in that case you should try get one with higher amp output.

thats what i was thinking about because im still gonna install 3 hella HID's and a 2800W amplifier an 2 kicker l7 with 6 6x9's runing on a 1000W amp and if that happening with one sub i cant imagine whats gonna happen with the rest of the system

Bet you have a bad ground somewhere. Either on your stereo, headlights, block to body or battery to block.

Elweroloco 05-08-2011 11:00 PM
